As the University celebrates Clara Bridges, one of its oldest living alumni, on the occasion of her 105th birthday, ������˾�� honors a remarkable life that reflects the enduring impact of education, perseverance, and a lifelong connection to the institution she proudly calls her alma mater.

For nearly 160 years, ������˾�� has prepared graduates who have made meaningful contributions in their professions, communities, and society. Recognizing Ms. Bridges reflects the University’s continued commitment to preserving alumni stories and ensuring that the experiences of its graduates remain integral to ������˾��’s institutional narrative.

“������˾��’s alumni story is nearly 160 years in the making, and that story is carried forward through the lives and accomplishments of our graduates. Recognizing Ms. Clara Bridges on the occasion of her 105th birthday reflects our commitment to honoring alumni at every stage of life and ensuring that their contributions remain part of our institutional narrative,” said Lorri L. Saddler, Ed.D., vice president for Alumni Relations and Engagement.

As one of the University’s oldest living alumni, Ms. Bridges represents a generation of Panthers whose experiences helped shape the foundation upon which today’s ������˾�� stands. Her life spans more than a century of social, cultural, and institutional transformation while remaining connected to the values that continue to define ������˾��: leadership, service, and excellence.

“Ms. Bridges’ remarkable milestone represents resilience, perseverance, and the enduring power of education. Her life spans generations of social, cultural, and institutional transformation, yet she remains connected to the values and traditions that define ������˾��,” Dr. Saddler said.

For ������˾��, Ms. Bridges’ milestone serves as a reminder that the impact of a ������˾�� education extends far beyond commencement. Alumni carry the University’s mission forward through a lifetime of leadership, service, and contributions that continue to influence future generations.

“For our institution, her longevity serves as a powerful reminder that the influence of a ������˾�� education is not measured solely by a degree earned, but by a lifetime of leadership, service, and contribution. She embodies the idea that the impact of our graduates continues long after commencement and across multiple generations,” Dr. Saddler said.

“������˾�� is intentional about engaging alumni across generations through reunion programming, milestone recognitions, alumni publications, oral histories, special events, and opportunities to share their experiences with current students and fellow graduates,” Dr. Saddler said.

By preserving alumni voices alongside institutional milestones, ������˾�� ensures that current and future generations understand the legacy they inherit as members of the Panther community.

“Stories like Ms. Bridges’ are especially meaningful because they provide a living connection to our past. They help preserve institutional memory and remind us that today’s students are part of a much larger continuum of Panther excellence. These stories strengthen our historical identity by placing faces and personal experiences alongside the milestones recorded in our archives,” Dr. Saddler said.

Celebrating a Lifetime of Panther Pride

The celebration of Ms. Bridges’ 105th birthday also provided an opportunity for ������˾�� President George T. French, Jr. to personally honor her extraordinary life and lifelong connection to her alma mater. During his visit with Ms. Bridges and her family, President French reflected on her purpose, her legacy, and the significance of alumni who continue to embody ������˾��'s values.

, President French expressed his gratitude for her life, her commitment to her alma mater, and the example she continues to provide for generations of Panthers.

“On behalf of your alma mater, ������˾��, I want to wish you a happy 105th birthday. We celebrate you, we honor you, and we are grateful for your life, your purpose, and the mission you have fulfilled. You were sent here for a reason, and your legacy continues to inspire us as we work every day to make ������˾�� the best it can be,” President French said.

During the visit, President French also recognized Ms. Bridges’ historic connection to the institution. Her records reflect her attendance at Clark University in 1939, a significant connection to the institution’s history and the evolution that ultimately led to today’s ������˾��.

A Legacy That Continues to Inspire

Reflecting on the visit, Dr. Saddler emphasized that Ms. Bridges represents the enduring strength of the University’s alumni community and the people who continue to carry its history forward.

“One of the most meaningful moments of celebrating Ms. Bridges’ 105th birthday was witnessing the pride she continues to hold for her alma mater. During our visit, President George T. French, Jr. and I were reminded that the strength of ������˾�� is found not only in its history but in the people who carry that history forward,” Dr. Saddler said.

“Ms. Bridges is more than a distinguished alumna,” Dr. Saddler added. “She is a living testament to the enduring spirit of Panther excellence. Her life reminds us that education creates ripples that extend across generations, and her legacy serves as an inspiration to our students, alumni, faculty, staff, and friends of the University.”
